Charity of choice: Dementia Australia
We’re proud to announce Dementia Australia as our charity of choice for the 20th Australian Masters Games.
This partnership brings together two organisations dedicated to promoting physical activity, social connection, and community wellbeing: all vital factors for supporting brain health and reducing the risk of dementia.
“We’re proud to be fundraising for Dementia Australia at this year’s Games. Working with Dementia Australia allows us to highlight the positive impact of sport and social engagement on brain health, and the role they play in preventing and managing dementia,” said Adam Drinkwell, General Manager for the Australian Masters Games.
In 2025, an estimated 433,300 Australians will be living with dementia, a number projected to almost double in the next 30 years without significant intervention. This includes around 29,000 people with younger onset dementia, some diagnosed in their 30s, 40s or 50s.
While age, genetics and family history cannot be changed, scientific research shows that looking after our brain, heart and body health can help reduce or delay the risk of developing dementia. Regular physical activity, social engagement and community participation are all central to the Australian Masters Games that can make a difference.
“Every dollar raised through this partnership will go directly to supporting people living with dementia, their families and carers. It’s about creating more healthy years of life and helping those already diagnosed to live as well as possible for longer,” Adam said.
Partnering with Dementia Australia reflects our commitment to not just celebrating sport, but championing community wellbeing.
“We want people to see that sport is for life. Staying active and connected is one of the best investments you can make for your health,” Adam added.
