Volunteer Applications Are Now Open for AMG 2025
Volunteer applications are now open for the 20th Australian Masters Games (AMG), taking place in Canberra from 18 to 25 October, 2025. With more than 40 sports on offer and thousands of participants expected to descend on the nation’s capital, AMG are calling on enthusiastic and community-minded volunteers to help deliver an unforgettable Games experience.
“Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Australian Masters Games,” said Adam Drinkwell, AMG General Manager.
“Our AMG volunteers contribute to every aspect of the participant experience, from accreditation to competition, and help create the positive, energetic atmosphere that defines our event. The AMG is a chance to give back on a national level, right here in the heart of the nation’s capital,” Adam added.
Volunteers play a vital role in creating the welcoming, inclusive and vibrant environment that AMG is known for, with opportunities available across a range of areas including operations, workforce coordination, participant services, registration and sport liaison.
More Than a Role: A Community Driven by Purpose
Leanne Hew, AMG Marketing and Communications Coordinator, knows first-hand the value of volunteering at major sporting events. From handing out water at fun runs, to taking photos, managing athlete check-ins and supporting logistics, Leanne has been on the ground where the action happens as a volunteer.

“Even the smallest roles make the biggest difference,” Leanne said. “Whether you’re welcoming athletes at the gate, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, or taking photos; every volunteer helps shape the experience.”
As a volunteer at the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships in Perth, Leanne was part of an international event that left a lasting impression, saying “That experience in 2016 showed me how sport brings people together from all walks of life, united by a shared passion. I felt proud to play even a small part in something so big.”
Sport has always played a part in Leanne’s life, both personally and professionally. But she explains that “Volunteering gives you a different perspective.”
“You realise how much effort goes into creating those great experiences for participants, and how rewarding it is to be part of a that journey. It’s a beautiful community to be a part of,” Leanne said.
