Registrations opening for national sporting event to unite masters athletes in Canberra

The 20th Australian Masters Games (AMG) returns to Canberra after 20 years from 18 – 25 October 2025. This truly national event is one of Australia’s most celebrated multi-sports events for masters athletes aged 30 years old and above. Registrations will be opening on 29 January 2025 via the AMG website, including popular sports, dragon boating, softball, pickleball and many more.

With 30 sports and counting on offer, and thousands of participants from across the country expected, the Games celebrates fitness, camaraderie and fun for athletes of all abilities.

Adam Drinkwell, General Manager of the Australian Masters Games, is gearing up for the opening of registrations for this iconic event which is returning to Canberra for the first time in 20 years.

“Canberra is the perfect host city, with its welcoming atmosphere and outstanding venues. We can’t wait to see athletes from all walks of life come together to create unforgettable memories,” Adam said.

“The Australian Masters Games bring people together through their shared passion for sport, whether they’re overcoming challenges, achieving a personal milestone, reconnecting with or trying a new sport, or simply having a great time,” he said.

“This event is a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to passion or achievement,” Adam added.

“This isn’t just a competition. It’s an opportunity to share stories, forge lifelong friendships, and inspire others of all ages to lead active, fulfilling lives.”

This year, Canberra is in the spotlight with a fresh focus on inclusivity and local partnerships. It’s a golden opportunity for the city to showcase its vibrant sports scene, hospitality, and world-class facilities.

Key Highlights of the 2025 AMG:

Dates: 18 – 25 October, 2025
Location: Various sporting venues across the ACT and surrounds
Sports: Over 50 disciplines, from athletics and swimming, to niche sports such as yoga sports and shooting.
Participants: Open to everyone aged 30 years old and above, regardless of skill level. Some sports have lower age minimums, such as gymnastics, which is 20 years old and above.

The Games are owned by the Confederation of Australian Sport (CAS) and conducted under its charter of “Sport for All”, providing participation and competition opportunities for people over the age of 30 years, regardless of their background or ability, aimed at encouraging healthy active lifestyles and lifelong participation in sport. The 2025 AMG is also proudly supported by the ACT Government.
